Although EPS has historically focused on air quality its remit covers all three environmental media, including water. Responsibility for water quality in Scotland primarily resides with SEPA, Scottish Water and the Drinking Water Quality Regulator. Land and water quality are closely linked and hence we have included this section on water under land quality
As with our air, land and noise expert advisory groups EPS would like to establish a group for water and will be inviting views from its members on this and also potential participants for an EAG over the coming months.
The key role EPS plays in providing impartial policy advice and training on environmental issues can be applied to water quality and it is hoped the organisation can make contribution to this field in Scotland. Avoiding overlap in water quality issues with other organisations is important and where it makes sense to do so links to relevant bodies will be provided, EPS will focus on its role to provide impartial advice and information.
We welcome views from our members on this proposed expansion of EPS’s remit – please send any comments to admin@ep-scotland.org.uk. The website will be updated over the following few months to reflect water quality being incorporated into EPS’s work.
