ENVIRONMENTAL Protection Scotland have taken part in the first meeting of Scotland’s Cleaner Air For Scotland 2 (CAFS 2) Delivery Group.
The Delivery Group has overall responsibility for ensuring the high level actions contained in the ‘Cleaner Air For Scotland 2 – Towards a Better Place for Everyone’ are achieved, or remain on track to be completed.
A separate Ministerial Group, to be chaired by Màiri McAllan, Minister for Environment, Biodiversity and Land Reform, meets for the first time on 8th December. This group, which will meet annually, is in charge of the overall strategic direction of CAFS 2.
It will sign off the annual CAFS 2 progress report to be presented to the Scottish Parliament before MSPs take their summer recess.
Specialist sub-groups will have input into key policy areas of the strategy, with domestic burning and agriculture likely to receive particular attention given developments in these fields, to the Delivery Group.
The Delivery Group includes representatives from SEPA, Transport Scotland Public Health Scotland, the National Farmers Union Scotland, The Society of Chief Officers, of Environmental Health Scotland, Asthma UK/British Lung Foundation, Friends of the Earth Scotland Woodsure, the Stove Industry Alliance and Coal Merchants Association/Solid Fuel Association.
CAFS 2’s progress will be reviewed with this process due to start in 2024. The strategy will be revised in late 2025.
Latest updates on key meetings will be published on the Air Quality in Scotland website and our website will provide more details as the work takes shape.
