James graduated from the University of Strathclyde in 1999 with a BSc in Environmental Health. Following training with East Ayrshire Council and qualifying as an Environmental Health Officer in 2000 James worked for Falkirk Council for three years carrying out pollution control work before moving to Glasgow City Council in 2003.
He continued to work on pollution control at Glasgow with a particular focus on noise, contaminated land and air quality and was involved in developing air quality action plans, as well as managing and co-ordinating pollution control work.
He has been assistant manager for public health since 2009 at Glasgow.
James was involved in NSCA and EPUK as Divisional Secretary for a number of years and continues to be involved in the Air Quality Expert Advisory Group of Environmental Protection Scotland. His experience is relevant to the core issues that EPS is involved in and he believes that we all have a joint responsibility to aim for a cleaner, quieter, healthier and sustainable Scotland.
