Dr MacKay is a microbiologist who specialises in healthcare associated infection, disease epidemiology and infection control. Gordon was Senior Research Officer for the University of Paisley during 2004 – 2005 and then joined an international not-for-profit organisation called Quality Control for Molecular Diagnostics. A Scottish success story, QCMD works worldwide with clinical laboratories to help improve diagnosis of infectious diseases.
He has collaborated internationally with the World Health Organisation (HIV drug resistance and tuberculosis), the Center for Disease Control USA (respiratory pathogens) and the European Centre for Disease Surveillance and Control (influenza).
Gordon currently holds the positions of Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Healthcare Associated Infection (University of the West of Scotland) and Honorary Clinical Scientist (NHS Ayrshire & Arran).
